kater promotion admin

Lets the data team decide the promotions that a scan recommends or that people ask for.

The data team can also move a shared model’s own field up a level. run scans a connection for repeated definitions now. See Promotion requests.

Commands

Command	What it does
`kater promotion admin list`	List promotions and their state.
`kater promotion admin show`	One promotion: its levels, the definitions it replaces, its draft’s files and its result check.
`kater promotion admin levels`	Where a shared model’s own field can move up to: each level above its model, nearest first, with what choosing it does.
`kater promotion admin move-up`	Start moving a shared model’s own field up.
`kater promotion admin redraft`	Draft an open promotion again: as it is with no option, or under another name, to another level, or with other values. The change is drafted and checked afresh.
`kater promotion admin check`	Run the result check of a promotion’s draft again, on the warehouse.
`kater promotion admin apply`	Write a promotion’s drafted change, in one commit, or approve it where people asked for it. Refused while its numbers change. When a file changed after the draft, nothing is written and Kater drafts the change again.
`kater promotion admin dismiss`	Dismiss a recommendation. Nothing is changed, and a scan doesn’t recommend it again unless it spreads.
`kater promotion admin deny`	Deny what people asked for, with the reason they read. The field stays where it is.
`kater promotion admin reopen`	Open a dismissed promotion again.
`kater promotion admin run`	Scan a connection for repeated definitions now. It runs as a job; `list` shows what it found.

Permissions

These commands call the Kater API as you. Sign in with kater login.

list and show need the audit:read or the models:write permission.
Every other admin command needs models:write, which the Admin and Developer roles have.

The scan

Each night, at 03:00 UTC by default, Kater looks for fields with more than one definition. It compiles every workspace on each connection and matches formulas by their fingerprint. A language model judges whether each promotion is worth it. Kater then drafts the change and checks it on the warehouse.

In a chat

Through the Kater MCP, an agent runs some admin commands with the kater_apply tool, not with kater. They are move-up, redraft, check, apply, dismiss, deny, reopen and run.
