Kater CLI Present and share promotion

kater promotion

Asks the data team to move a field or a filter of your workspace into a shared model, and follows your requests.

When the data team approves, your definition becomes a reference to the shared field, so everyone reads one definition. The admin commands decide the requests. See Promotion and verification.

Commands

Before you start

  • Sign in. These commands call the Kater API as you. Sign in with kater login.
  • Give paths from the content root. A path starts with connections/, such as connections/snowflake_prod_connection/workspaces/ad_reporting/query_contracts/spend_by_platform.sql.
  • Ids come from the lists. The examples write an id as 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000. Use an id that kater promotion list gives.

Formula columns

For a worksheet’s formula column, add --promote-as measure or --promote-as dimension to the request: the kind the formula can be.

Promote inside your workspace

To move a query’s field to its own workspace root, use kater model promote. That needs no approval.
