Kater SQL Functions Conditions

KATER__IS_NOT_EQUAL_TO

True where the field does not equal the value.

Family: Conditions

Syntax

KATER__IS_NOT_EQUAL_TO(field, value)

Arguments

ArgumentDescription
fieldThe value to test: a field, or a measure’s value, such as EVAL(orders.sum__amount).
valueThe value to compare with. A value, or a parameter a reader supplies.

Returns

TRUE or FALSE. It is NULL where the field is empty, so a filter leaves that row out.

Usage notes

  • A row whose field is empty is left out too, since the comparison with an empty value is not true.

Example

This Sandbox query reads the sample shop’s orders. The table shows the rows that Kater gave.

SELECT
orders.region AS "Region",
EVAL(orders.count_distinct__order_id) AS "Orders"
FROM kater_dataset.orders AS orders
WHERE
KATER__IS_NOT_EQUAL_TO(orders.region, 'EMEA')
GROUP BY
orders.region
ORDER BY
1
RegionOrders
AMER728
APAC671
LATAM760

Compiles to

The call compiles to the same SQL on DuckDB and on Snowflake.

orders.region <> 'EMEA'
