Addresses and names
How a statement names a warehouse table, a dataset, a model, a workspace or a query, and the rules for each name.
| Address | Reads | Example |
|---|---|---|
DATABASE.SCHEMA.TABLE | A warehouse table, in a Kater dataset or a custom SQL dataset | shop.sales.orders |
kater_dataset.<name> | A Kater dataset | kater_dataset.orders |
semantic.<name> | A semantic model | semantic.ad_reporting |
workspace.<name> | The workspace root, from a query | workspace.shop |
query.<name> | Another query in the same workspace, or a chart’s parent | query.top_regions |
workspace."<path>".<name> | A workspace by its full path, when a name alone is ambiguous | workspace."connections/c/users/alice/workspaces/report".report |
Names are 1 to 128 ASCII letters, digits, underscores, dollar signs or hyphens, and start with a letter or an underscore. A name with a hyphen is written quoted and in upper case, such as semantic."SALES-REPORT". Labels never take part in an address.
